AI-powered automatic license-plate recognition at the edge
ASUS IoT ALPR Dev Kit is a comprehensive automatic license-plate recognition (ALPR) solution that includes both the necessary hardware and software to enable systems integrators (SIs) to create edge applications that mesh seamlessly with existing ALPR infrastructure.
Powered by ASUS IoT Tinker Board Edge R, the single-board computer for AI applications, ALPR Dev Kit is capable of up to 99% accuracy with high, 100ms inference performance. It integrates easily with existing USB or IP cameras and, with built-in machine-learning (ML) technology, it’s able to learn from each inference – delivering continuously improving detection.
ASUS IoT is able to fine-tune the ALPR software to service specific needs or cater to particular demands, empowering ALPR Dev Kit to provide accurate, fast and tailor-made detection that is ideal for almost any scenario.
High-accuracy inference model
ASUS IoT ALPR Dev Kit includes Tinker Edge R, which is equipped with a powerful Rockchip neural-processing unit (NPU) – an ML accelerator that speeds up processing efficiency, lowers power demands and makes it easier to build connected devices and intelligent applications. Capable of performing up to three tera-operations per second (3 TOPS), the NPU features an optimized neural-network (NN) architecture that allows ALPR Dev Kit to support multiple ML frameworks and allow lots of common ML models to be easily compiled and executed.
At just 100 x 72 mm, ASUS IoT ALPR Dev Kit is small enough to be installed almost anywhere – from an EV charging station to access-control gate and beyond. It’s also extremely power efficient, so it’ll run reliably for long periods via a battery or solar panel. In fact, the Tinker Edge R hardware component of ALPR Dev Kit supports 12 v or 19 V DC input via either a jack or header, for complete flexibility.
Tinker Edge R benefits from a 40-pin GPIO interface, allowing it to connect quickly and easily to a wide range of external devices – including buttons, switches, sensors, LEDs and much more. This flexibility empowers SIs to create bespoke solutions for customers, from EV-charging stations to digital-signage systems. It’s also loaded with connectivity, including gigabit Ethernet, WiFi and a PCI Express® Mini slot that’s able to accommodate a 4G/LTE expansion card.
